PEI-25000 Polyethylenimine

PEI-25000 Polyethylenimine PEI

VeryPaint® PEI-25000 is a medium molecular weight polyethylenimine (PEI), also known as polyaziridine. It is a water-soluble polymer characterized by its strong positive charge, formed from carbon and nitrogen repeating units that create a flexible and highly reactive chain.

The unique structure of PEI-25000 contains a high density of amine groups (primary, secondary, and tertiary), enabling it to form multiple interactions such as hydrogen bonding and ionic interactions with various materials. This results in excellent adhesion, strong reactivity, and good compatibility with diverse systems. PEI-25000 appears as a colorless to light yellow viscous liquid with a slight ammonia-like odor.

Applications

  • Paper Chemicals: Acts as a retention and drainage aid, and dry strength additive. Its cationic nature neutralizes negative charges on fibers and fillers, improving retention, dewatering, and fiber bonding strength.
  • Water & Wastewater Treatment: Functions as an efficient flocculant. Neutralizes charged particles, promotes aggregation, forms larger flocs for easier settling/filtration, and can bind heavy metal ions for improved removal efficiency.
  • Coatings & Inks: Works as a dispersant or grinding aid in water-based systems. Improves pigment dispersion, prevents re-agglomeration, ensures good stability, consistent color, and smooth application at high pigment loading.
  • Adhesion Promotion: Enhances adhesion on metals and polar substrates. Its functional groups interact with both the substrate and resin system, improving wetting, bonding strength, and long-term durability.
  • Adhesives & Resin Modification: Participates in crosslinking reactions or acts as a modifier in resin systems. Improves bonding strength, chemical resistance, and overall performance while maintaining a good balance between hardness and flexibility.
  • Textiles & Nonwovens: Used for dye fixation and surface treatment. Improves dye fastness, enhances fabric performance, and provides additional properties such as antistatic behavior and moisture affinity.

Storage and Handling Precautions

Storage Stability: Recommended conditions: low temperature (<25°C; 4-10°C for long-term storage), protected from light, dry, and sealed. High temperature risk: storage above 80°C or exposure to air may cause oxidation, darkening, surface film formation, and performance deterioration (e.g., decreased amine value, reduced viscosity). Hygroscopicity: PEI-25000 is hygroscopic and absorbs CO₂; containers must be tightly sealed to avoid moisture contact (otherwise salts may precipitate or the product may degrade).

Material Compatibility: Recommended materials: stainless steel, polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Prohibited materials: mild steel/iron (may oxidize, discolor, or harden solution); copper/brass alloys (may form green compounds and contaminate product).

Usage and Handling: Ensure container integrity before use to avoid contamination (water, dust); reseal immediately after use to minimize air exposure. For dilution or blending, use deionized water or weakly polar solvents (e.g., ethanol); avoid strong acids or bases that may damage amine groups.

Long-Term Storage Recommendations: Store in a cool, dark warehouse with impermeable flooring to prevent leaks; avoid sunlight and rain exposure. Inspect packaging (drums/bottles) regularly; discontinue use and contact the supplier if bulging, leakage, or abnormal odor (intensified ammonia smell) occurs.

Packaging

Available in 4×5Kg plastic drum, 25Kg plastic drum, and user specified packaging.
